Volvo announced its plans to introduce a new 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine also known as D3. The new D3 unit is capable to deliver 136 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque, can be paired either with a manual or automatic transmission and will be available for certain models in the range.
To be more precise, the new five-cylinder diesel will enter the range of the S60, S80, V60, V70 and XC60 models.
Volvo released no fuel economy of performance figures for the new diesel engine but they said that the introduction of this powerplant is part of their mission to improve fuel efficiency.
“From now on the DRIVe symbol will not be used for denominating specific car models since we extend Drive-E to embrace all Volvo Car Corporation’s sustainability efforts,” says Volvo.
Along with the new engine, the Swedish company released details on the 2013MY improvements for the models in the range.
Therefore, models such as the S60, S80, V60 and V70 will gain additional systems including Tunnel Detection, Active High Beam and Road Sign Information but also new 18-inch aluminum wheels.
